Mandel Giving in Israel
The Mandel Foundation supports a variety of institutions, programs and initiatives across Israel that reflect its mission. These include institutions of higher learning, humanities programs, cultural and community centers, educational activities and facilities, innovation centers and art exhibits. The Mandel Foundation–Israel helps the Foundation’s leadership identify new sites and innovative programs in Israel that merit funding and assists the Foundation in monitoring existing sites and programs that are receiving Mandel support. In recent years, the Foundation has also responded to special needs that arose during times of crisis.
Humanities and Higher Education


The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities

Founded in 2015, the Mandel School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities trains the next generation of researchers in the humanities by forming an active and vibrant academic community. Within the School, various interdisciplinary research groups operate in which young scholars work alongside experienced, senior researchers.

Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Institute for Jewish Studies

The Institute of Jewish Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was established in 1924. In 2003, the Mandel name was formally added to the Institute in recognition of the Mandel family's generous support for Jewish studies at the Hebrew University. The Institute is currently responsible for coordinating all the teaching departments and research centers dedicated to Jewish studies at the University.

The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Institute for Social Leadership in the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was founded in the spirit of the University's commitment to social and environmental responsibility, and to responding to the specific challenges of the Negev region.

Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Humanities in STEM Programs
The Mandel Foundation supports three humanities programs of varying scope, designed for students of engineering, exact sciences, and life sciences. These programs aim to expose students to critical and ethical thinking while introducing them to the wealth of human culture


Derech Ruach – For the Promotion of Humanities in Israel
Derech Ruach is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of the study of humanities at the high school level, through special programs offered to high school students at several institutions of higher education. As part of its mission to strengthen and promote the humanities in Israel, and against the backdrop of dwindling enrollment in university humanities programs, the Mandel Foundation–Israel began supporting the activities of Derech Ruach in 2018.

Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem
Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Campus and Building

The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design has moved from its home on Jerusalem’s Mount Scopus to the new Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building and Campus in the center of the city. Bezalel's new home brings together 2,500 art students and 500 faculty members in a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the city.

Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Wing for Jewish Art and Life

The Mandel Wing for Jewish Art and Life showcases the religious and secular material culture of Jewish communities worldwide, spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day. Most of the objects on display were used by Jews from various parts of the world, including North Africa, Central Asia, Europe, and Israel.

Situated in Musrara, on the seam line between East and West Jerusalem, the Naggar School of Art and Society encourages its students and graduates not only to attain a high level of artistic achievement, but also to generate social change by contributing to and empowering disadvantaged populations through community-based artistic volunteerism in Jerusalem and nationwide.

Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Children's Museum of Beer Sheva - Lunada

Lunada is an innovative, interactive, and experiential museum that encourages activity and learning for all ages. The three-story facility has over 50 exhibits and installations, including unique outdoor areas.


Midbarium – Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Animal Park
Beer Sheva
The Midbarium wildlife sustainability center in Beer Sheva, named for Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel, is an educational experiential center for the whole family. The first project of its kind in Israel, this innovative animal park is revolutionizing the concept of educational interaction between humans and animals.


Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Sports Center
East Jerusalem (Under construction)
The Mandel Community Sports Center in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina will be the first community sports center to be built in East Jerusalem. The center will house three separate indoor pools: a half-Olympic-sized pool, a toddler pool and an instructional pool. It will also have a fully equipped fitness center and areas for activities.

Morton L. Mandel Plaza
Jerusalem
In honor of Morton L. Mandel's active involvement in Israel and his intensive involvement in Jerusalem, and in recognition of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation's substantial support of institutions and initiatives in Jerusalem, the city of Jerusalem granted Morton Mandel the "Builder of Jerusalem" award and dedicated a plaza in his name. The plaza is located at a prominent site near the historic Moshe Montefiore Windmill that overlooks the Old City of Jerusalem.
